First of all I would like to dedicate this page to Chelsea and Teri. Their friendship and dedication to this project has inspired me to do everything I possibly can to help everyone with Lupus be "understood". I know I really can't do a lot.. but this is at least part of what I am trying to do.
Thank you Chelsea and Teri for you friendship and together we WILL all get through this.
AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS QUILT
In order to bring more knowledge, recognition, and support to the victims of Lupus, I would like to start a quilt for the public.
This quilt will be made for anyone that suffers from any type of an Autoimmune disorder. Whether it is you, yourself, a spouse, son, daughter, relative or someone you know----or even if you suspect the possibilities that you might have an Autoimmune disorder.
I hope that by making this quilt and displaying it to the public by newspaper, TV broadcasting, anything possible to bring recognition to the public, then maybe everyone who is a victim of the disease will no longer be "misunderstood". Then, finally, those whom have never heard the word Lupus will begin to understand you.
I can't do this alone, so I am asking for help from you in several areas.
1. Contact your local Chapters, spread the word, tell everyone you know what is needed to be done to widen the information about Lupus.
2. Write letters asking for help.
3. The quilt blocks/squares: Please cut out a 7 inch by 7 inch square block from a cotton material. On the block put anything you want. Name, picture, dates, a favorite motto anything at all. You can use cloth paint, cross stitch, for a few ideas. It will be your block whatever you do, whatever color/colors. It doesn't matter.
(My daughter, who has lupus, is putting her name and age.. she was (17) when she found out she has lupus.
Please leave an inch on each side of the block for me to work with.
4. Once you have your square/block to your taste mail it to me. Please include your name and address so I can give you the credit.

If you wish to send more than one square/block please feel free to do so.
If you wish to send a square/block in memory of someone that passed away from
complications of an Autoimmune Disorder, PLEASE DO. Include their name (last name is your
option) and the dates.
Please remember this is not MY quilt. I will NOT be keeping it for myself. Hopefully the quilt or quilts will be making it's way around so everyone will see it. And also hopefully the quilt/quilts will be displayed in chapters, organizations. I pray this will be an ongoing process and hopefully continue the fight for the cure of Lupus and other Autoimmune Diseases. If youre asking yourself why am I, Chelsea, doing this. It's the only way I know how to pay my utmost respect to everyone that is a victim of Lupus. I watch my daughter everyday and see what she is going through. I see the hurt in her eyes when people say to her, "The pain is just in your head". I feel her pain and want to do something for her. I can't fix it but maybe if we all work together we can expose Lupus to the public. Then, maybe people won't have a blank look on their faces when you tell them what is wrong. They will be educated. And hopefully Lupus won't be a "hidden" disease anymore.
Last but not least, it's my way of saying thank you to all the people who suffer from Lupus who educated my daughter and I, and to return the respect they so well deserve.
Thank You,
Chelsea Arnett
